Meet Your Instructor
Sophie creates a welcoming, supportive space where adults of all experience levels can explore movement with confidence and joy.
Sophie holds a degree in Dance with Performing Arts from Middlesex University, a PGCE in Performing Arts (Dance) from Liverpool Hope University, and a Master’s degree in Dance Movement Psychotherapy from Goldsmiths, University of London. Sophie began her teaching career in London, where she became Head of Dance in a secondary school, developing a passion for inspiring confidence, creativity, and self-expression through movement. Alongside teaching, she gained experience as a wedding choreographer with the London Academy of Dance, helping couples create memorable first dances for their special day.
Sophie's journey then led her to retrain as a movement therapist, combining her love of dance with a deeper understanding of emotional wellbeing and connection. After moving to Cheshire in 2019 to start a family, Sophie worked within the NHS in a variety of mental health support roles. However, dance has always remained at the heart of who Sophie is. In 2025, Sophie founded Joy in Motion to bring together all the different elements of dance and movement that she is so passionate about — creativity, connection, confidence, wellbeing, and above all else - joy.
